Description
The Dane County Division of Public Health is the official public health agency
serving Dane County residents living outside the City of Madison. The Vision of
the Public Health Division is: All communities will be empowered to obtain
optimal health for present and future generations.
The Mission of the Dane County Division of Public Health is to deliver
essential public health services* in collaboration with community partners.
* The essential public health services are:

Monitor health status to identify community health problems.

Identify, investigate, control and prevent health problems and environmental
health hazards in the community.

Educate the public about current and emerging health issues.
-
Promote community partnerships to identify and solve health problems.
-
Create policies and plans that support individual and community health efforts.

Enforce laws and regulations that protect health and insure safety.
-
Link people to needed health services.
-
Assure a diverse, adequate and competent workforce to support the public health
system.

Evaluate effectiveness, accessibility and quality of personal and
population-based health services.

Conduct research to seek new insights and innovative solutions to health
problems.

Assure access to primary health care for all.

Foster the understanding and promotion of social and economic conditions that
support good health.

Services
|
|
Environmental Health
Services - includes groundwater protection, food protection program, environmental
sanitation program, investigation of nuisance complaints and providing
household lead and radon information.
Public Health Nursing Services
- services offered include public health clinics, services to women who are
pregnant or have young children, chronic disease prevention, communicable
disease control, community education, Wisconsin Well Woman Program, the WIC
program, and a dental program.
Public Health
Emergency Preparedness - provides Dane County citizens with information regarding
public health preparedness, planning efforts, and resources related to such emergencies as
bioterrorism, disasters, radiological emergencies, pandemic influenza, and
more.

Board of Health for Madison and Dane County
- The Madison Department of Public Health and the Dane County Division of
Public Health are currently in the process of becoming one unified agency that
will serve all of Dane County. The Board of Health for Madison and Dane County
governs the Madison Department of Public Health and the Dane County Division of
Public Health, provides supervision to the Joint Director of both agencies, and
assures the enforcement of state and local public health laws and regulations.
It may adopt rules necessary to protect or improve public health, determine
program service priorities and assign funding levels to those priorities, and
enter into contracts for the provision of public health services.

Health Statistics
(Wisconsin and by County) - This is a link to the State web site that
provides links to a wide range of health related statistics. Data covers such
topics as:

Cancer - annual reports on cancer incidence and mortality; summary tables on
cancer incidence, death, risk factors, and screening; reports on breast, lung,
colorectal and prostate cancer, and more.

Health Care Charges in Wisconsin - information about health care charges for
common outpatient surgeries and hospitalizations.

Health Care Providers - home health agencies and patients; hospital facility
information; hospital inpatient information; nursing homes and residents; and
other health care providers.

Health Insurance Status - estimates of the number and percent without health
insurance; current insurance status and insurance status over the past year;
kinds of health insurance coverage (public and private); results of research on
the uninsured.

Health Surveys - Behavioral Risk Factor Survey - estimates of risk factors
(such as smoking) and use of preventive health screening (such as mammograms)
among adults. Family Health Survey of estimates of health status, chronic
disease prevalence, activity limitations, and other factors related to health
among Wisconsin people of all ages.

Local Data - health information for counties, cities, and regions in Wisconsin.

Minority Health - statistics and other information about the health of
African-American, American Indian, Asian, and Hispanic/Latino populations in
Wisconsin.

Oral Health - information about oral health in Wisconsin among children and
other populations, based on data from screening surveys.
